Dear Valued Customers,
As I am sure you are aware, the United States has placed tariffs on Aluminum, Steel
and Steel adjacent products. Many Cast Iron products are included.
All products sold by Ancast are FOB our dock. Therefore, all of our American
customers import their castings into the USA through their own customs brokers.
Ancast does however, fill out the USMCA Certificate of Origin that accompanies the
shipping paperwork. This is where the HTS code is entered that determines whether
your product is subject to the tariff.
Which HTS code is applicable to each part is defined by our customers. In most cases
the tariff codes we use were set many years ago. These should be reviewed to ensure
they are correct.
As per paragraph 12 of the Executive Order proclaiming the tariff “CBP shall prioritize
reviews of the classification of imported steel articles and derivative steel articles and, in
the event that it discovers misclassification resulting in non-payment of the ad valorem
duties proclaimed herein, it shall assess monetary penalties in the maximum amount
permitted by law and shall not consider any evidence of mitigating factors in its
determination.”
The list of applicable HTS codes can be found here https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/USDHSCBP/2025/03/07/file_attachments/3187354/steelHTSlist%20final.pdf
Ancast takes no responsibility for
what tariff codes we have on record that are being used to import through customs.
Ancast will not be held responsible for any fines issued due to mis-classification.
Please review which HTS should be applied to your product and inform Sandra
Taylor (s-taylor@ancast.mb.ca) of any changes required.
Sincerely,
Jeff Herdman
General Manager
